Jeha,

Excellent point in tying today's events to the 1973 failed attempt to bring the camps into the fold of the Lebanese state and bringing that seen under control. Being a resident of Beirut at the time, I can clearly see as a result of stopping the Army from completing the mission how the Palestinian factions proliferated and beefed up their presence all over the city and the South. There is no question in my mind, if the army was allowed to finish their job we may have not had the bloody conflicts that followed since. It goes without saying now that the Army must finish Fatah al-Islam and set the grounds for a political process which the Lebanese and PA must engage in so a new set of arrangements for the refugees in Lebanon can be reached and kill the 1969 Cairo disaster once and for all…

Jeha,
The only way that I can answer your query is to say that On one hand, if history is a prologue, then Lebanon has stubbornly avoided bringing any problem that it has faced to a successful resolution but on the other hand there is a first time for everything !!! (Thats why Truman is reputed to have begged for a one handed economists:-)

Thanks to the US and this failing team in the Beirut Serail, we are going top have a lot of Salafist groups in Lebanon being armed, and a lot of problems...rooting them out later on.
